Rosario Rivera-Bond creates relational tensions between gesture, action and her pictorials. The works contain dominant, swirling brushstrokes and a profuse use of paint that long surpasses abstract expressionism. Rivera-Bond proposes dynamic and shifting confrontations of stains, drips, and disrupted marks projected into a powerful and radiant white background. The turbulent visual bustle eases into serenity. Divergent, twisted designs converge to a bare void, adjusting to ethos and stillness. The convocation of profuse changing lines with colored brushstrokes relates to aural resonances and musical echoes. Weaving lines intersect one another into dancing curves, creating sinuous and sensual parcours. Each work reveals a playful and intense buoyancy. Subtle lyric evocations emerge from the free intersecting informal contours. Imaginary landscapes and forms of nature are taken to a pure abstract level. Rivera-Bond skillfully synthetizes the visual elements to their minimal expression. The works in the “White Mischief” Series are fictional, illusory and pictorial. The canvases display a celebration of life. Through dynamic traces, colorful scribbles, and a saturation of the colored planes, the artist proposes a strong joyfulness and a bright optimism. The paintings appeal with their hopefulness, and their levitating look. The open and diffused backgrounds are set over a peaceful composure. The dynamic turbulence of the foreground subsides into the serene stillness of the background. Positive emotions arise through the multiple traces and whimsical colorful outlines, enhancing the stellar energy that illuminates each work. Perhaps, it is a mystical absorption of the bright colors of Miami or the tropical chromatics of her native country, Dominican Republic. On a deeper level, Rosario Rivera-Bond is proposing the inner forces of the Ethos of life.
