This period is marked by the softening of elements in Rivera-Bond’s language. Without forsaking emotional power, her paintings abandon gradually thick layers of color to make room for neutral spaces that act as a background. “Happy Ashes,” a series initiated in 2016, is a turning point in her painting. Spontaneous and colorful strokes on the naked canvas interweave with grays and deep blacks, enriching the visual and connotative tension of these pieces. In “Unbounded,” developed from 2017 onward, the artist applies various techniques without restrictions. Lines and stains appear alongside splatters and drips. She introduces collage, spray stenciling, and geometric linear modules. The “Back to my Garden” series began in 2019, when the artist returned to the house where she had raised her children. It made her reminisce cherished family moments and enjoy again the lush tropical garden of the house, which she saw through the windows of her studio. This series connects the artist with the sensuality of nature and the tenderness of home memories, orienting her subsequent production towards less impetuous solutions.
